My opening weekend for Christmas card photos was such a success, having mini sessions with six families. My shoots are only 20 minutes long which seems to be working well with the kiddos. They show up, we get hyper, smile for a minute then they go get the treat their parents promised them.
Easy Peasy.

It's been a whirlwind of a summer for us. We started the month of June with a bang. I turned 36, gave up social media with the exception of my work, delivered a dog painting which lead to us buying a home, went on vacation for 7 days, came back from vacay and packed up our rent house, closed on the 26th, moved into our new home... and the rest is history. It has been incredible and I couldn't be more thankful. In between family photography season, I tend to focus more attention on family, landscape photography and managing my Etsy Shop, sand+saltykisses. I love taking photographs, all types of photographs and our trip to Gulf Shores allowed me to capture some pretty amazing skies. We spent every morning walking on the beach looking for shells and soaking in the beauty of the sunrise. We watched incredible storm fronts come in and even enjoyed some time witnessing man and heron fish. It was simply beautiful. Here is a preview of my work which you can find all these prints for sale in my shop. Enjoy the photos y'all and I look forward to seeing some of you in the fall for family photos.
Aloha,
Emily Mariani

I would like to introduce you to Brooklyn, Memphis and London.
These three little boys amaze me.
This time yesterday all three of them had heads full of hair. While we were driving home from a birthday party I told them about one of my bible study friends back in Houston and how she is battling cancer and how her and her husband had shaved their heads together. Sarah also had a friend who shaved his head in honor of Sarah. They asked questions about cancer and I explained to them about chemo and how it makes your hair fall out. I showed them the picture of my beautiful friend, a woman whom they have not met, and while they were looking at the photo my husband suggested they too shave their heads in honor of Sarah. The car became silent and my husband and I just sat back and watched their little brains working, to shave or not to shave...
What will my friends think?
Will I look ugly?
Then...all of a sudden, one by one, they began to volunteer.
It was a very magical moment. There was no pressure or talking them into it. They silently came to this decision all on their own, as individuals.
After all three heads were shaved we went outside and I took this photo of them together. Three little boys who I am not sure fully understood the situation but knew that what they were doing was for Sarah, mama's friend, and to them that was all that mattered.
During prayers at dinner, London prayed for Sarah's health and told God his love for her...once again a woman he has never met. It brought tears to my eyes. We as humans are born with so much love in our hearts and that kind of pure love is all around us.
“The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.” – C.C. Oxford
If you are battling cancer, this post is for you. These three little boys shaved their heads in honor of you.
May you find strength in London's eyes and joy in Memphis's smile.
You are precious.
You are love.
Blessings to you all,
Emily Mariani

Our oldest turns 10.
I am happy and sad all in one. Happy for him but sad for me. I enjoy seeing his growth at the same time I do not enjoy the loss of innocence. That is one of the reasons I love photography so much. We can freeze these sweet moments in time and treasure them forever.
I have collected a few photographs I took of some wonderful mamas here in Frisco! They are such wonderful women that dedicate so much of themselves to their children and families. They are beautiful inside and out and today I celebrate them with this gallery.
Love to all the wonderful mamas out there!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
I have been spending so much time finishing up my wedding and newborn galleries. It takes me a bit to work through all the photos because I really want to provide my clients with my very best work. I have been known to work on just one photo for over 30 minutes, LOL... I love the art of editing and actually participated in a webinar on Saturday from Sandra Bianco. I watched in amazement as she turned an already beautiful photo into a complete work of art...that is one of my goals as a photographer/artist... it takes time and continued education and I am without a doubt up for the task.
Anyways, I am not quite done with my newborn shoot yet but I wanted to show you a few of the photos. This shoot took place in their home in a very relaxed setting. Newborn photography does not have to be as posed or stressful or scary as people think or even held in a studio. It can be just the family sitting in their bed with their shoes off holding their precious newborn. You could could even hold your shoot at your parents or a siblings home.
This shoot took place in three rooms. The master bedroom, the formal dining and the baby room. It was stress free and a very comfortable setting for baby. Just something to consider the next time you or a friend or loved one is looking into newborn photography.
Enjoy!

Their wedding ceremony took place on a Thursday at Three Forks here in Dallas, Texas. It was small, intimate and completely full of love and connection.
I have put together a small gallery of their most memorable moments from the very beginning when we did our pre-wedding shoot up until the the newly married couple left in their limo.
I hope you all enjoy witnessing the true love that shines out from each photograph...and to Molly and Glen, thank you again for choosing me as your photographer.
It was such an honor to be a witness to the love that flows freely between you both.
Blessings,
Emily
A very special thank you to the staff at Three Forks for the amazing service and hospitality.

Keep in mind that your greatest element to work with is the people in front of you. Capture the love and happiness of a family or the way a mother looks lovingly over her child and you will have your photograph regardless of the haze or the trees.
I also love it when families bring their pets. These sweet pups add a whole new element to the family shoot and they make it fun for the kids. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter family to spend my morning with.
Thank you Myers Family!

My fall photo season kicked off about a month ago... I know, I know... I am behind on this blog. I'm sorry.
I am absolutely in love with this shoot. Not only is this family totally beautiful and photogenic, they are returning clients and they send me new clients.
That makes my heart swell with appreciation and happiness.
I took Kami and her family back to the exact same park we shot last year but with a plan to give them completely different photos. I wanted the photos to be less posed and with more feeling. I wanted the love they have for each other to shine through and I think we accomplished that.
Thank you again Ryan+Kami for not only choosing me again, but allowing me to capture the true emotion you have for each other and your sweet girls.

They had contacted me and we had gone through all the talk of where and when and what kind of shoot. We met at Arbor Hills in Plano, a beautiful preserve filled with hills, walking trails, biking trails, creeks, beautiful bridges and even a lookout point if you feel like making your way up the "mountain"!
Before they arrived I went in search of the perfect spot. We were shooting at sunset and I wanted that glorious golden light coming through the trees. I had found my spot when another photographer came in and started shooting where I had set up... this did not sit well with me, I became territorial... even asking him when he planned to move... he knew I was there, I heard his clients mention me, he ignored them.
Anyways, I hiked back up and waited for my clients. I knew she was expecting and I knew he was very tall so it was super easy to spot them as they arrived. We did our introductions and hand shakes then set out on our journey. These two were so easy to talk to, so friendly and so very in love which made for a super easy shoot.
After we were done, we walked back up and I introduced them to my family, our boys had been playing with daddy at the playground.
They had mentioned they were only here for 4 months then Jared had to go back to work. I said, "oh, what do you do?" He said, "I am a Professional Baseball Player, I am a relief pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates!" I was like, NO WAY!!!!! I was on cloud 9. I had just photographed a pro baseball player...and of course...all my boys including daddy were wearing Cubs shirts and hats, lol
Anyways, it was a super cool moment for me, one I will never forget.
Thank you again Jared and Kelly and I wish you all the very best with your precious baby!
]]>I just wanted you to see the Before and After I did for this particular maternity photo. I will take this photo or one like it and edit it in several different ways with different color and artistic variations.
The before photo is a great photo out of the camera but I wanted to create an entirely different look to it so I took that photo and put a matte filter on it then added lots of different touches to it to create my personal vision or the story I was trying to tell.
For this photo, I was going for a vintage, mystical look. I added touches of yellow, green and plum to the bushes and added some haze to parts of the photo. I blurred some parts while adding clarity to others to create the look. I wanted the sky to have a slight pink tone to get that vintage look and to enhance the sunset appearance of the photo. I wanted her features to stay soft and lovely so I upped the luminance and used very little sharpening and clarity on her. It was also important to me that mama and sweet baby stayed the focal point so you will see that parts of her dress are blurred and the haze leads to baby.
This method took me a very long time to learn simply because I needed more education and because I was on the path to learning who I am as an artist and the style of photos I wanted to create for my clients.
Once you find your style and the type of sessions you prefer to shoot,
it all clicks and you start to find freedom and confidence in your art and creations and your clients get so much more out of their photoshoot and galleries.
The photos become not just something taken so you do not forget... they become a piece of art.
Blessings,
Emily Mariani
This wedding was so sweet, simple and filled with tears and lots of love.
Congrats to the beautiful couple. Thank you for choosing me.

This is the busiest my little business has ever been and I am so very excited for this season. When I started my photography business, I went from not knowing how to use my camera and editing software, building and failing at several websites and having few clients. I used to (and still do) study other photographers work and see just what they did to create such beautiful art... a brush stroke here, dehazing there... I was frustrated and nearly quit several times feeling like I would never be able to create the art the photographers I look up to create in which I still aspire.
I had finally started to get some phone calls when we moved here to Frisco and once again, I started from zero... with the exception of a portfolio...
I am now not only receiving phone calls but I have been featured in a magazine, had some of my writing published in Bella Grace Magazine this past June, been picked a handful of times as "Inspiration" for other photographers on Beyond the Wanderlust and had some of my photos featured on Instagram. I also run pixANDpaints on Etsy and helped design and sold over $600 worth of my prints in the Texas Urban Living Real Estate building in Grapevine.
It has been quite a journey in the last three years and really, it is still the beginning of my career. It is always nice though to take a look back to where you came from and to see how far you have come and the possibilities the future holds when you work hard and continue to educate yourself.
I invite you to take a look at my website and if you are wanting Christmas photos, please get on my schedule. Most families hope for the weekends when the lighting is the most beautiful...these spots come and go quickly.
Hi everyone!
It has been a while since I have posted on my blog. Honestly, I have been enjoying the summer with my boys. We have had an absolute blast sitting in the sunshine, swimming at the pool, vacationing at the beach... it has been a fabulous summer.
Now that the summer is coming to an end and the kiddos are going back to school, I am opening up my schedule for photoshoots. Starting in September my youngest is starting school two days a week (insert, frown and tear). I will be available on Tuesday and Thursdays from 10-1 and on Saturdays and Sundays. My 30 minute sessions are $175 for 10 edited photos of your choice and my hour sessions are $350 and includes 20 edited photos of your choice and two 8x10 prints of your choice.
I know it is only August, but trust me...time gets away from us during the fall and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here.
I took several photos last fall at the Central Park here in Frisco. The trees turn beautiful colors and make gorgeous Christmas cards. Please contact me today and reserve your spot on my schedule. Space is limited and I do not want you to miss an opportunity to get beautiful photographs taken of your family this year at such awesome prices. Below is a photo of my family. We used this photo for our Christmas cards and had it custom framed and put over our fireplace. You can see how beautiful it gets here.
Thank you very much, and I wish you and your children a wonderful school year!

It was a beautiful, sunny day and I thought..."why yes, it is a good day to have a good day!" ;)
This is the same area. You can see the cute sign in the background. It's amazing how changing the photo to black and white and simply switching the direction of the lens will totally change the photograph. Perspective right?
This is a cute little setup outside of one of the adorable stores in Plano. I saw this table and immediately knew the creative direction I would take the photograph. I pictured a vintage, pink and brown photograph. I want to sit in this photograph and have a cup of tea with a pretty little dress and bonnet.
This store was AWESOME. I actually bought a gorgeous blue necklace that hasn't left my neck since Saturday. A local artist makes them. I think this store sold only local work. Yay for those putting their time, energy and money back into the community and supporting the local artists. I talked to the sales associate about displaying my work there. I haven't had a chance to put together a gallery yet.
We shall see...
After purchasing my necklace, we went and had lunch at a local Pub. One of the reasons we chose this restaurant is because there was a courtyard and stage where the kids could play games and climb.
After lunch we walked around a bit more exploring the city.
We finished the afternoon with me on Shannon's shoulders, working to get this shot. I slowed my speed down and turned my aperture up to around f22. I wanted to capture the main intersection and still get the "P" in the middle of the street merging together the city and it's tourists.
The beauty of this gallery is this is simply my perception. I would love to see another photographers Plano!
I leave you with this quote...
“One has not only an ability to perceive the world but an ability to alter one’s perception of it; more simply, one can change things by the manner in which one looks at them.”

Isn't it!
We had such a wonderful weekend. We went out and tried a new pizza place, practiced some yoga and spent the afternoon with my boys playing washers and soccer in the backyard. We discovered some new music stations on Pandora that I instantly fell in love with... Chris Stapleton and Joey+Rory...awesome music to paint to.
On Sunday, Shannon and I hired a babysitter and went on a date for 4 hours. We laughed and laughed and had an amazing time. We did simple things like shop without the boys and had hot wings that had us sweating and in pain. We enjoyed cold craft beer and Blackhawks Hockey at the Puckers Wings and Bar. We finished our weekend watching Mockingjay 2.
I had a very creative week last week, creating birds, elephants, VW Vans, and a watercolor about a couple walking though life together. I had a lot of requests for my birds so I went out and bought a few more frames. All of these pieces are for sale and will be up on my Etsy Gallery, pixANDpaints. I have also had two orders for custom watercolors, an elephant and a pelican.
This life truly is beautiful. Find something you love and are passionate about and go after your dreams. Give your loved ones all the love you can give, everyday. Surround yourself with color and sunshine and glitter. Enjoy your week. Everyday is such a gift, a blessing.
May you be filled with sunshine this week, even on the rainy days!

It seems like we are only young for a short period of time and then the next thing you know...we are graduating Highschool and heading to college where that will last just a minute then we are grown up.
Taking an hour on a Saturday or Sunday to photograph your teenage child is really important. These photographs represent a very fleeting yet important time in a persons life.
We are experiencing so much and we will never be that young again.
I encourage you to schedule a session for your teenage child.
This beautiful moment frozen in time is a keepsake you and your child will treasure for the rest of your lives.
Blessings,
Emily Mariani

I have to tell you... I had a BLAST at the Makers Market this past weekend here in Frisco, Texas.
I got to meet lots of awesome people from the community, sit in the sun, listen to music and even have a cup of cold, craft beer. To me, that makes for a wonderful weekend.
I chatted with people about my art, their art and made small talk with lots of wonderful people.
My overall best seller was my piece titled, "Be Uniquely You", a photo I took in New Orleans. People enjoyed the color and detail of this print.
I was super excited that people were so supportive and excited about my Watercolor. I have only been painting a few weeks so I was unsure of how they would be received but people LOVED them.
My VW Van was well received and was the first watercolor to go followed by my glitter flamingo and Mini Cooper Stationery.
I want to thank everyone who came out and chatted with me and purchased my work. I enjoyed meeting you all and listening to some of your stories. This show was my first outdoor Art Show and I had an absolute blast. Thank you to the super kind community of Frisco for coming out and showing so much love and support.
Blessings,
Emily

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend! Our weekend was filled with Jesus, candy, eggs, the Easter Bunny and a VERY, VERY cold and windy photo shoot. We literally ran, set the tripod up, I set the camera settings, took photo and we all ran back in the car!
BBBBBRRRRR
The good news is the weather is getting warmer, the flowers are in bloom, the days are getting longer and the grills will soon be filled with yummy meats and veggies.
Isn't life just beautiful.
Blessings to you all,

Shopping at Staples was one of the most proud and amazing moments for me personally and it is all because of you... You know who you are...the people and friends who have supported and cheered me on, clicked like and love, shared my posts and bought my paintings. I just want to give a big thank you to you all and tell you how much I appreciate you. My life went from one of my lowest lows to now one of my highest highs and I could not be more thankful to my true friends and supporters. heart emoticon
Thank you.
Stuck in a rut? We can all learn a few lessons from our children. Kids and even animals have a way of finding the beauty and fun in the everyday. Take Memphis here... he found a piece of plastic left by the builders who are building homes in our neighborhood and turned what adults would view as litter or trash into something beautiful and fun. We might look at that long piece of plastic on the ground and say to ourselves..."Geez...why can't people clean up after themselves, there are trash cans everywhere!!!" But not a child...they see this long piece of plastic on the ground, pick it up and go running, watching it fly in the air like a kite behind them, giggling and smiling along the way.
Imagine this photo without this piece of "litter". The photo wouldnt have that sense of discovery. You would think I had taken this photo on a beautiful open field. Nope. There are houses everywhere. Trashcans line the alley way. There is rope and development all around. I too looked at our landscape with new eyes. We didnt go to some majestic park, I simply layed down on the ground under the hill which created this effect.
So...how does this relate to being stuck in a rut?
I think the most important landscape we can look at is ourselves. Are you looking at yourself with the same ole eyes? Or are you looking at yourself with fresh, new eyes? How are you holding back? We all hold back in one way or another, this is normal. Is there something you have always wanted to do or try? Go do it. Is fear holding you back? Sometimes you have to say "screw fear, I'm taking a chance. I don't care what people will say!" I had no idea I could paint but I tried it and watched videos on Youtube and practice. Now I am selling paintings. I decided to give writing a try. I found a topic I felt passionate about so I submitted it to the magazine...
It's being published in the June issue of BellaGrace Magazine.
Talk to people, get their input. My good friend mentioned in stride me taking my pictures and scanning them into the computer, editing them then selling them as stationery. That very afternoon I researched how to do this and now I have stationery for sale and have sold two sets. No one is going to change your eyes for you. You have to change your perspective yourself.
Let me warn you...self-discovery is a very fun but not so easy task. You are going to have to put the effort into what you want. Do you want to lose weight? Then you will have to exercise and eat healthy. Do you want to be a painter? Then learn from those better than you, do the research and practice. Do you want to move up in your company? Then do what it takes. Give more, work harder. Do you want to have a better marriage? Then take courses together and learn to love the way your spouse needs to feel loved, not in what you choose to give. Look at the landscape of yourself and your life with new eyes. Life is meant to be lived. It is meant to be discovered. There is so much beauty and joy here.
You have to be brave, work hard and change your perspective.
Blessings to you all,
Emily

I only post my work to Facebook, I do not go through the newsfeed and I have not been on Instagram. Honestly, it has been amazingly refreshing. I used to wake up, turn my phone on and immediately start to search the feeds and see what was happening. I did this throughout the entire day and sometimes for 30 minutes at a time. Looking at people's pages, pictures, reading comments and stories. Not anymore... Thank God.
With all this extra time, I have realized some new things about myself...
~ I can watercolor! I had absolutely no idea. Guess what...people are now paying me to paint pictures for them and I am selling the prints of my watercolors on my Etsy Gallery, pixANDpaints. I am also adding lots of new inventory to my gallery!
~ I feel more confident in my work. Now that I am not seeing other artists work, I am feeling more confident about myself. I am no longer stuck in the rut of constantly comparing. "I am free to do what I want... any ole time!"
~ I am happier. I do not see the negative, rude or just plain disgusting posts that people either post or comment on. This makes for a much more positive and sunshiny day.
~ I have started exercising again and am losing the weight I gained over the past 6 months and have tons of energy which means our home is clean!!!! Way awesome!! When my home is dirty, my mood is down.
Clean home = happy family = positive mood
~ I have the energy, endorphins and positivity to give my family and my work my very best which makes for an even happier mood!
~ I am literally never. in. my. phone. YAY!
I have no freaking idea what the Kardashians are doing! Thank you Jesus...Praise the Lord.
I am now free to create, play and work on my gallery. Instead of spending so much time looking at what everyone else was doing, I spent that time discovering me and what I can do.
Kids are being played with, books are being read, paintings are being painted and pictures are being taken. Shannon and I are exercising and cooking together daily and we fall asleep by 9:30 and wake up by 6!
Seriously, I do not think we fully understand how constantly being connected impacts our health and our daily life. I recommend you take a cleanse. I don't think I will ever go back. There is so much freedom and beauty in being disconnected.
Blessings,
Emily

]]>“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness -- just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.”
― Laura Ingalls Wilder
"There's always a few moments at dusk when the sky sheds purple and the world seems to exhale out the day. I'm learning to breathe alongside it. I'm learning to soften into the in-betweens, to be content with the not knowing, to innately understand when it's fine to stop all of the reaching for a bit and just be and believe. "

Windmill Lovers...here is a print JUST FOR YOU! I took this photo while visiting Grapevine, Texas this past December. As you can see, it was a clear, crisp, beautiful day. This historical landmark in the adorable Grapevine downtown is a GO TO during the Christmas season. A must visit! There are cute setups for photographs with your family, Santa statues, Elf houses, Christmas Lights everywhere and of course there is the beautiful rustic windmill, cabins and old stores stocked with knick knacks, salts, clothes...you name it.
We had lunch at The Main Street Baking Company where the Nutella Marshmallow French Toast is to die for and spent the afternoon taking pictures and shopping. We ended our day at the Delaney Vineyards where I snapped a few shots of the winery and Tasting Room.
All these prints are for purchase on my Etsy Gallery.

This is a letter I sent to Lisa Edwards. She runs the program "Photographing Tweens" that I am taking. One of the questions is, "Why do you feel passionate/emotional about photographing Tweens?"
This post is not meant to bring tears or make you feel bad. It is meant to explain why I think it's important to take beautiful photos of children specifically between the ages of 10-13. My story was to explain why they could benefit from these photos, instilling them with confidence during a time of self doubt.
Here is my answer...
"You know, I got to thinking while I was in the shower (why do people do their best thinking in the bathroom???) and I have already started to notice what you were saying about the forgotten tween years with Brooklyn who is not even 9. I think this is more noticeable in families with multiple children. Your firstborn is typically your most obedient child, they are the ones who have taught YOU how to be a parent after all, so they typically behave the best and have been though the most. You have made your biggest mistakes with them, they probably are a bit more afraid of you, LOL.
Then the second one comes and he or she is a time sucker and attention thief. If you have a third…well…they are the baby. No matter how old they get. They will always be the baby. Family members come over and you watch the awkwardness and hurt feelings as the oldest walks away with their head down while grandma gushes over baby and dismisses the “irritating 4 year old.” What once was cute is no longer cute when they do it, cuteness comes from younger sibling. You ask them to step away while you take photos of brother. Family members say, "Brooklyn, please move out of the photo, this is for mom and younger brother." The forgotten process has started. Insecurity and jealousy is born. This is not intentional. It is simply the way of life. However, it still hurts your tween's feelings. You love all your children equally. Your family members love all your children. Older children (at least in our home) simply behave and do their own thing. This is a learned behavior, you have been praising them for doing this exact thing all along, you have taught them to be a good boy and go watch a show while you take care of brothers. Can’t you see I am busy???
Before you know it, two days have passed and you find yourself asking, “have I given Brooklyn a hug!!!” Time continues to go on and oldest begins to have an inner battle about being the oldest and not receiving the same attention. I also think they begin to think because they are older, they don’t believe they NEED all the hugs, cuddles and kisses the youngest get. They become the helper. How many times have we said, “Brooklyn, your the oldest…it’s time you help out around here." "Brooklyn, you are not a baby, stop acting like that." "Brooklyn, your too old for that." Or my all time most hated... "Grow Up!" Older brother is told to stop a certain behavior while younger brother gets told he is adorable for that very same behavior. Confusing right? They become aloof. Quiet. Bigger. Older. They want to be the “good” kid so they stay quiet and do as they are told. They are unsure of how they should behave. They see you gush over the youngest, talking baby talk and adoring the tiny feet and sweet little cheeks. They can't help but realize they do not receive the same attention.
You wake up and you open your eyes to a 13 year old and you think, my gosh… a week ago you were 8. Where did those years go? The middle school years start and that already insecure child walks into insecurity and bully hell. Alone...
Maybe this is the rambling of a mother who feels guilt or never feels she does enough or maybe this is truly what happens in families with multiple children whether parents want to believe it or not. Do not get me wrong, Brooklyn is very loved and knows he is loved. He gets tons of attention. He does very well in school and is a super sweet child. He is not neglected. I think this is just the process of getting older on a certain level. It has nothing to do with love and has all to do with being a busy mom who takes care of everything during the day. It has to do with growing older, even if your only 10. Parents can only do so much. We are only human.
I see your point on making them feel important, beautiful, comfortable and loved during this time. These are the lost, forgotten, awkward years. They are photographed as a baby and toddler. They are photographed as a senior and at sporting events. But where are all the photos with big teeth and awkward hair. I remember being that age and I felt so ugly. I was made fun of for EVERYTHING. From bad teeth to being flat chested. I was told I was ugly and too pale. Wow...your freckles are disgusting. Really????
We can make these years enjoyable so when they look back the photos will tell a different story. The photos will tell a story of beauty and inspiration, innocence and aspiration. The stories we tell ourselves about our lives change with time. Remember the telephone game? We can save these photos for when they are older and say, "See, look how beautiful you were." We can tell them those years were not bad, see... look at your beautiful hair, your gorgeous eyes. Look how strong and determined you look in your swimsuit for the swim team. You were a rockstar!!!!
This is why I want to do these sessions.
Just thought I would share.
Emily
For the record, I NEVER tell my kids to grow up. I can not stand that. It was told to me over and over and is now a pet peeve.

There is nothing more special than family. There is also nothing more special than being able to photograph families and create photos they will cherish forever. This little guy is named Grayson. He has the sweetest most adorable little personality. He loves to dance, play football, smile and laugh. One of the sweetest babies I have ever had the privilege of photographing.
Blessings to all,

]]>I don't know when it started,
Or how it all began.
But God created families,
As only our Lord can.
He was teaching what it means,
To love, honor, and obey.
He wanted a strong bond,
That we don't see too much today.
He wanted someone to hold us,
And show respect for others.
He wanted someone who'd be gentle,
And so he created mothers.
He wanted someone strong,
A support filled with love.
And so he created fathers,
Sent from heaven up above.
Brothers and sisters came next,
With that, an instant friend.
Someone to look up to,
Someone on who to depend.
When he put them all together,
He was amazed at what he'd done.
He had created a family,
Mother, father, daughter, son.
But look at the family,
Created by only two.
How many we've become,
And all because of you.
We have a lot to be thankful for,
The memories through the years.
The many times together,
Full of laughter, full of tears.
I don't know where we'd be today,
If it weren't for the two of you.
To show us strength, support, and love,
Like only the two of you can do.

]]>We live in a time where everyone has a camera and everyone calls themselves a "photographer." Let me tell you though, yes...everyone can take a picture, but not everyone can capture a "mood." Everyone can take a photograph, but not everyone can edit one. Trust me, I do this for a living and there is still SO MUCH I DO NOT KNOW. I am constantly learning and trying new techniques. Being a photographer is not just about taking a photograph. It is knowing the ins and out of the camera. It is understanding lighting, shading, highlighting, using brushes such as the Dehaze option. It is setting the "stage" and "mood" of the photograph and it is also being able to edit and add effects, creating the mood of the photo.
I know we hesitate to spend the money on professional photoshoots but it really is worth it. This is the season for beautiful family photographs. These photos truly are "priceless" and I encourage you to schedule your session for your family. There are so many price options so everyone can enjoy this moment. We take photos of our kids and family almost daily, but wouldn't it be nice to invest in professional photographs at least once a year. Honestly, it is the cost of one date night but the difference is, these photographs last a lifetime.
Blessings,
Emily

The fall is my favorite time of year.
Not only is the weather wonderful and the trees are beautiful... the fall is also the time when families get together and want their photos taken. The Thanksgiving and Christmas season makes for the most beautiful, colorful photographs and there is a sense of relaxation and pure joy in the families energy. The fall, to me, means family time. We tend to make our way indoors for the season and wear warm socks, sit by the fire, and cuddle.
For the past 8 years I have been making calendars of our family and gifting the calendar to my husband for Christmas. One of my favorite moments is going back through these calendars and seeing all the pictures and the ways in which are kids have grown and changed. These calendars mean so very much to us. When you get professional photos taken, you are getting amazing photos that have been edited and worked on in a way that only professionals can do. One photo can easily take me 30 minutes to edit. SO much energy, care and love is put into each photo so you too can enjoy them for years to come.
Fall Packages

2. 30-45 minute session, 10 edited photos with an open gallery to choose more and mailed to you on a Jump Drive, $175

How beautiful expectant mothers are. This is a re-edit of a shoot I did a few years ago. I recently purchased some new presets and am going back and "playing" with my photos. It is so rewarding to see how far you have come and it is even more exciting to know that there is still so much to learn. When you love what you do, you crave knowledge. I am so thankful that God sent me down this path. I feel absolutely blessed. Have a beautiful Friday friends, may you find your calling and feel passionate about life.

I recently took my son to a horse farm in Fairview, Tx to take photographs. It was the most beautiful, calming morning. I find myself setting out for morning photoshoot adventures since opening my Etsy Gallery. My creativity is heightened and I am even learning new techniques and purchasing new filters for Lightroom. I have never felt more "at home" in myself and my direction. It has taken me years to find my place. I was so lost in my 20's, began to grow and mature right around 30 and now that I am on my way to 35... I feel more confident and alive. I was always jealous of those people who seemed to know their direction in life. I have a college friend that knew from a young girl that she wanted to be a nurse and she became an incredible nurse that works with children with cancer. I was always wandering around lost and insecure, copying other peoples directions as my own. I am sure you all have felt that in some way or another. It can be frustrating but looking back on it now I see that it was simply my journey. Every step leads to this moment right now whether we realize it or understand. Everything I have experienced, good or bad has lead me to be the woman I am today which of course translates into my very own, very personal artistic vision.
I will end with this quote...
“You have no control over how your story begins or ends. But by now, you should know that all things have an ending. Every spark returns to darkness. Every sound returns to silence. Every flower returns to sleep with the earth. The journey of the sun and moon is predictable. But yours, is your ultimate art.”

Blessings to you all,

]]>I guess I am not doing very well posting a photo a day, but let me tell you, I am definitely taking and editing a photo a day! So many exciting things are happening for Emily Mariani Photography! I have been working long hours on my new Etsy Gallery, ordering inventory and working to create a beautiful store with a variety of photos and printing options for my clients.
This Thursday and Friday I will be at my very first Art Show located at the First United Methodist Church here in Frisco. I am told there will be at least 20 other artists and vendors selling their products. I am waiting on my arrival of inventory; a variety of prints, canvas, vivid metals, magnets, coasters, mouse pads, glass cutting boards... all items with my photos on them. There will be vibrant butterflies, beautiful buildings, flowers and all sorts of creative photography. I am beyond excited to be participating in an Art Show, it makes me feel like I too am for real, an artist :)
On another note, I have several photo shoot projects in the near future. I am working with Yoga on Main Street here in Frisco to update their website photos and even do some "Mommy and Me" yoga shots. I have also been asked to come in and take some professional shots pre-Homecoming. I am super excited for that possibility. There are multiple shoots in November and I am even doing a Christmas Card Mini that is short, sweet and to the point... 5 downloadable photos, 20 minute shoot, $100. I can also assist you in your Christmas Cards if you would like for an additional price.
I have recently started a "Gratitude Journal" which is an activity that revolves around counting your blessings daily. You record three reasons why you are grateful in a journal or on a piece of paper. This activity is meant to reduce stress and change your perspective. I am grateful for photography and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to learn, adapt and grow as an artist and Etsy Store owner. My grandma gave me an idea this morning. She said I should offer blank cards with my prints on the front, which is exactly what I am going to do. I am going to offer blank cards and even "thank you" cards in the very near future.
Follow Emily Mariani Photography on Facebook or @lovefamilyyoga on Instagram to keep up with the latest and daily photos from Emily Mariani Photography. You can check out my Etsy Gallery for my latest photos and products at www.etsy.com/EmilyMariani
I appreciate you always and look forward to offering you more products, prints and photoshoots.
Thank you all,

I LOVE THIS PHOTO!
My husband and I were on a trip to New Orleans to see The Head and the Heart. We were walking back from breakfast and it had just finished raining. As soon as the rain lifted, the sun came out and created such beautiful photo opportunities. I love this city so much. it's full of color and life.

Yes! I am so excited to announce that I now have a gallery on Etsy. If you had asked me 5 years ago if I thought I would have an Etsy Gallery I would have been like "yeah right." I don't think I would have had the courage to create an online store showcasing my work. That is why I am so very proud that I have taken this step.
This photo, titled "Ghosts" is for sale! Please visit my gallery and look around. Feel free to add me as a "Favorite" too!! :)

I am going to stick with this photo for my photo a day selection. I can't get over how beautiful she is and how well this photo turned out. The top two photos on the left are photos I have edited with presets from Pretty Presets. The third photo is one that I edited on my own using Lightroom, there is not a filter on that particular photo. Editing takes time. Using presets takes time. Taking good pictures takes TONS of practice and learning to use your camera and find where you are confident also takes time. I have found my editing skills improving with editing and presets in general but I am not going to lie... first you must master the photograph in camera, that way you never rely on the editing. In my opinion, editing is like makeup. You only use a little to enhance your natural beauty, same with a photo. The natural beauty is in camera, editing is a way to add bits of color, contrast, shadowing, highlights, etc to enhance the natural beauty of the original photo.
My suggestion to you is start with the editing programs that come on your computer and begin to play with the contrast, exposure, highlights, clarity, shadows, etc and see how it changes the photo. Over time you might want to upgrade to a software program like Lightroom or Photoshop. Keep practicing with these techniques and find your style. When your ready to add presets check out Pretty Presets! They are really great and have truly enhanced my photographs. Remember, this is supposed to be fun, like grown up coloring so don't take it too seriously. Just relax, have fun and enjoy being creative.

This is probably the prettiest photo I have ever taken. You will be seeing quite a bit from this shoot. I am so very proud of my work and super excited to show you.
]]>I had an amazing time shooting Lauren. We went to Babe's Chicken Diner this morning and there were so many other photographers there. I felt so lucky to be the one photographing Lauren. She is absolutely beautiful and she was eager to take directions and be creative. I love being a photographer and I LOVE photographing teenagers.

I have decided to participate in the "One photo per day for one year" challenge. It's an awesome way to improve my skills as a photographer, storyteller and editor. I am a bit nervous about this challenge because doing anything every, single day for one week is hard enough, much less an entire year but I am up for the challenge. I post daily on Social Media, surely I can post daily on my blog, right?! I hope you will follow our journey. These photos will be taken with a variety of cameras including my NikonD7000, my Sony a6000 and my Samsung camera phone. Not all photos will be edited in Lightroom. It really depends on the moment. A lot can happen in a year, it will be amazing to experience this and it will be even more amazing when the year is up to see all the changes in my children, my work and our lives.
Blessings to you all!

I am constantly trying to find ways to reinvent my photography, from improving my skills as an artist to being able to offer my clients private galleries and tons of specialty items to purchase. I want your experience with me to be amazing all the way from our coffee and chat to purchasing your prints. That is why I switched websites completely so that you could have the very best!
I am no longer on Squarespace, I love their sites but I didn't have all the "goodie" that Zenfolio offers photographers! We all love Shutterfly, right? I order calendars every, single year and have since Brooklyn was born which is 8 years ago. We all love to create those adorable placemats or coffee mugs and send them off to friends and family for gifts. Well, I can now do that for you! Even if you did not use me as your photographer, I can assist you in ordering those wonderful, memorable items.
My goal as your photographer is to give you the best experience ever. I want your session to be fun and comfortable, professional and convenient. Your happiness is extremely important to me. I hope you can feel the love and passion I have for my work and the love I have for my clients. Thank you for choosing me as your photographer!
