Spread Kindness around like Glitter!I can tell you... so many, many times as a photographer I get caught in the "I want to photograph/edit like him or her." I get down, feeling like my work will never compare to the work of others. I watch Youtube videos and read books trying to improve. I study other artists work.
Comparison sure can be the thief of joy right...
Then I got this message today and Anne-Marie, you hit the nail on the head for me and wiped out a good bit of insecurity. Not only did you totally make me smile and feel good about my work, but you helped me to realize what I am good at, where MY personal talents lie...
"Your dad is spot on...your talent is most evident with your ability to capture the subject...nothing fancy...JUST the subject and oh my goodness...there's no distraction and I really appreciate it....the most recent photos you've posted have been so genuine -so authentic...nothing fussy or staged. AWESOME."
One...sending a VERY sweet, encouraging message that the other person is not expecting is ultimate kindness. Spread that stuff around like glitter ;)
Second... I am not saying we shouldn't strive to better ourselves and learn new skills, but gosh...it sure feels good to know where my artistic home is and what I enjoy...taking on the candid moments and watching and capturing families interact with one another. I adore these kinds of photos and it feels so darn good to know other people enjoy them too!
Thank you Anne-Marie,
Emily
Bring on the New Year!I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday! I gave the gift of photography this year! My husband and I took photos I had taken of our family and had them blown up and custom framed. They were so beautiful and I could tell our family was really touched by the gift. Bretton and Katie received custom framed prints of their baby girl, my dad received a 16x24 custom framed print of a photo he had taken (I tricked him into giving me the original) and Susan received a framed print of a photo I had taken in New Orleans. Most of the time people get their photos taken but rarely get around to framing them. I decided to take care of it for them. These are gifts they will be able to enjoy for years to come. Photography truly is a gift. I have also felt so very blessed for all the photo shoots I have recently had. I have had three photo shoots in the last week! That is a record for me and I just want to say a HUGE THANK YOU! I truly appreciate every one of you. With the New Year comes new photo opportunities! Birthday parties, cake smashes, Valentine's Day, Spring Photos, Easter Photos, Summer Photos... there are so many wonderful moments on the way. Make sure you do not wait to schedule your photographer. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe New Years! January birthdays... time to schedule your photographer!
Blessings, Emily
